Over the last three years the Starter for 6 programme in Scotland (set up by NESTA) has invested in more than 80 creative businesses, as well as offering business advice to over 200 emerging entrepreneurs. After proving its success, the programme has received £1M backing from the Creative Innovation Scotland fund and will now be managed and delievered by the Cultural Enterprise office in Scotland.
In a recent press release the Technology Strategy Board announced that "British businesses are invited to bid for a total of £6m of investment in a drive to boost technological innovation across the UK. The government-backed Technology Strategy Board is working to encourage UK business to continue to innovate through the recession, in order to be in a strong position as the economy starts to recover."
"The investment is being delivered as part of a new fast-track investment process designed to enable businesses to gain quick access to finance so that they can carry out feasibility studies. With this funding, businesses in a broad range of areas will carry out studies and produce reports showing how they might create innovative new technologies, products or services. This would enable them to work up their ideas and to compete for Technology Strategy Board funding for longer-term technology development."
