Our Services
The world has changed!
With terms such as Web 2.0, Web 3.0, podcasts, blogs, cloud computing, social networks, digital natives, crowdsourcing, meritocracies, mash-ups, widgets, serious gaming, augmented reality, artificial reality, knowledge management and business intelligence cropping up all over the business world, it can be confusing for companies to know where to begin when looking to adopt new technologies or seeking competitive advantage.
The Scottish Centre for Enabling Technologies has been established to help your company steer a safe and profitable course through this ever changing sea of technologies and hopefully visit some islands of innovation along the way.
So how can we help you?
Information, Advice and Guidance
Due to our conveniently located team of in-house technologists we are able to provide free and impartial advice on how to adopt a wide range of technologies. Typically we are asked to investigate and assess various tools and technologies for a particular concept that a company has. This could involve helping you to identify a suitable host and platform for a new social networking concept, how to add the ability for users to vote on your website or how to enhance the search facilities on your website. Or perhaps you are looking for some quick tips and guidance in terms of search engine optimisation (SEO) or setting up an e-commerce site. Irrespective of the need, a 30 minute call to the Centre may save you from making an expensive mistake.
If however you think you need help with a larger project such as transferring data from an old legacy system to a new system or moving from a static site to a dynamic content managed site – our technologists can research the various options and produce a report or 'How to' guide to assist you.
This is a flexible service and can last for 30 minutes or 10 days as the need demands. Our staff have a broad and diverse range of skills and experience but we would be the first to admit we don't know everything. Therefore, if your enquiry relates to an area we don't know in depth we will advise you of this immediately and suggest either researching this topic on your behalf or contacting one of our University partners.
Feasibility Study grant
Do you have an innovative new idea which could potentially enhance your services, products, knowledge or business processes? Perhaps you are considering developing your first native iPhone application or you have an new e-learning tool that you would like to develop but are unsure of the viability of your concept from both a technological and business perspective? Our feasibility study grant is designed to help your company overcome any technological barriers you might face by leveraging the research facilities and expertise within our partner universities.
The feasibility study grant provides up to £5000 of match funded support. Your match funded contribution can be either financial or “in kind” and thus can include your time, resource and equipment costs. The grant will be paid directly to the research institution involved on satisfactory completion of the exercise.
Typical outputs from feasibility studies will include a feasibility report, proof of concept, technology demonstrator or a combination of the above.

Themed Workshops
Themed workshops are designed to explore a particular technology or trend with a small group of SME's who share a common interest in the topic. Looking at how these technologies work in the 'real world' the subject matter is investigated in the context of the each business in attendance.
We are always open to suggestions!
If there is a particular topic that you would like to explore in more depth through one of our workshops then please do not hesitate to contact us with your suggestion. If we think the subject matter is worth exploring in more detail then we will endeavour to run a workshop for all interested parties as soon as possible.
