They are committed to offering and delivering a wide range of training to nationally recognised standards, at realistic and competitive costs, as well as being a source for recruiting apprentice engineers.
Feasibility Study
The aim of EKGTA's Feasibility Study was to provide advice and support on the implementation and deployment of the virtual learning environment
(VLE) Moodle. We also offered advice on how to transfer and develop content for the e-learning platform now and in the future. In support of the companies transition to providing e-learning via the internet and their intranet, advice and guidance was provided on configuring and securing their network and internet connection.
The deliverables of the feasibility study were:
- Installation and customisation of Moodle in time for the start of the new term.
- Advice and guidance on configuring and securing the local network.
- Advice and guidance on producing e-learning material.
- Knowledge embedded within company.
The outcome
Moodle was installed and configured to the companies specifications, including branding Moodle with the company's logo and colour scheme and setting specific privileges for certain user roles.
Through several tutorial sessions a member of EKGTA's staff was shown how to create Moodle based courses, emphasising e-learning best practice. They were shown how to convert content from various sources using a number of different tools, to a format that could be presented within Moodle.
The companies network was assessed and reconfigured to simplify maintenance and administration and to enable students to use the new e-learning labs to access their e-portfolio's and the VLE securely. Advice was also given on how to optimise the internet connection.
By the end of the feasibility study EKGTA were ready to run its first two pilot course with the new trainees.
